Civica HR & Payroll Update


A warm welcome to our first business update of 2018 and a Happy New Year to you all!

As you may already be aware, Civica UK Ltd purchased Carval Computing in July 2017 and we have been working hard within the business and with our respective teams to integrate the two businesses.    Being part of Civica has given Carval greater scale and access to a wider range of services targeted at bringing the most effective modern technology to our customers.  This is a very positive development which provides an excellent opportunity for the business, its people, and of course for you, our customers.  There is no change, however, to the day to day business and I am pleased as part of this update to be able to provide you with a progress report on our people, products and future roadmap.  It is vital that we understand your challenges, requirements and priorities so that we are working to build the right solutions for you.  We therefore look forward to meeting with you in the coming months to gather your feedback as we shape the future of Civica HR & Payroll.

Carval Rebrand

From Monday 19th March 2018, all our business operations will be rebranded and we’ll continue to deliver a great experience to our customers and partners under the Civica brand name. People Update

As you would expect we are taking the opportunity to review the business and its structure to support the exciting opportunities we have working as part of Civica.  Following over 20 years of service as both owner and senior manager within Carval, we can confirm that John Ovington has decided to leave the business to pursue other challenges.  As a result we are pleased to announce a new senior management team is now in place, headed up by Andrew Stenton as Divisional Managing Director.  Ben Crick also joins the business as Managing Director on the 5th March, coming from Symatrix where he previously worked as Chief Operating Officer.  We are also pleased to announce the appointment of Hannah Dollimore as Bureau Manager for our outsourced payroll service, and Michelle Barker as Business and Product Analyst.  Michelle’s focus is to work with the business and with you, our customers, to build the 4 year roadmap and plan which we expect to have ready to share with you in the next few months.  Plans to recruit a senior manager to head up service delivery and support are underway and we expect to be able to confirm this appointment in the next update.

Product Update

Development of Release 5.13 is well underway and expected to complete by the end of January.  The release is critical containing payroll legislative changes required for the 2018/19 tax year and our ongoing HMRC recognition status. It contains the following high level elements, as well as key bug fixes. 

               Updates to HMRC forms for 2018-19 (e.g. P60, P11D, P35, P11 Working Sheet, etc.)

               Updates to Full Payment Submission for 2018-19

               Updates to Child Maintenance DEO Schedule export

               Changes to Scottish tax rates and bands

               Changes to Benefits in Kind, P11Ds and P46(Car) for the Optional Remuneration Arrangements (OpRA) legislation.

Currently we are working on a product roadmap which covers the next 4 years development projects, a detailed 12 month plan will be available by Friday 2nd March.  Further updates on this will be provided in the next Newsletter.


BETT 2018 - Civica HR & Payroll will next be showcasing their solutions at BETT 2018, being held from 24-27 January at ExCeL, London. BETT is the first industry show of the year in the education technology landscape, bringing together 850 leading companies, 103 exciting new edtech start ups and over 34,700 attendees from the global education community. Civica HR & Payroll can be found on stand A90.

Civica Exchange - Civica HR & Payroll solutions were being demonstrated at our recent Civica Exchange event in Manchester.  Designed to Inspire, Innovate and Connect, the event was specifically for local government and housing executives and took place on 10th & 11th January at the Deansgate Hilton.

Civica Awards - Each year the Civica Awards recognise employees with innovation, passion and a conviction to work with those around them. This year saw a record 1000+ nominations. Congratulations to Judith Stewart from the Civica HR & Payroll Education Bureau team who was recognised for her contributions with a Foundation Award.
