Integrated Payroll and HR Software for Liebherr Great-Britain Ltd


Liebherr-Great Britain occupies a 3.7 hectare site at Stratton Business Park, Biggleswade in Bedfordshire. The British headquarters of the Liebherr Group has a vast program of products. In addition to manufacture, sales and repair of earthmoving machines, mobile cranes, concrete mixers, tower cranes and tracked machines, service is also organised from here covering the English and Irish markets. In 2007 Liebherr-Rental Ltd was founded to provide rental of construction machines.

In addition to the head office in Biggleswade further service depots are located in Aberdeen, Bathgate, Sunderland, Wigan, Cannock, Sheffield and Weston-super-Mare. Liebherr employees currently approximately 850 members of staff in England and Ireland.

The Drive for Change

In 2009 Liebherr-Great Britain decided that they had outgrown their existing manual human resources processes and that it was time to invest in HR software. The decision was made to replace the existing payroll software with an integrated HR and payroll system, which would hold all information in the same database and provide consistency.

Choosing Carval

It was important that the selected system could cope with salary sacrifice and also be able to look at pension contributions on total gross earnings, not just a figure each month. The project team spoke to a number of suppliers but ultimately felt that Carval demonstrated the best understanding of their needs.

Liebherr implemented Unistaff HR software and Uniwage payroll software from the Carval HR Unity range and have found that the primary benefit from having one centralised system is that there is no longer any duplicated data entry. They have also been impressed with the way that Carval keeps abreast of legislation changes and is continually able to deliver solutions that meet these requirements. 

Liebherr saw that they could expand the benefits of integration and went on to replace their existing Time and Attendance software with Carval Unitend. This has also driven efficiency by giving departments the autonomy to manage their own times and holidays.
